Disclosed is a chitin-binding protein, CB1, having both fungicidal and insecticidal properties, and a method of producing the protein CB1 by cultivation of a bacteria belonging to the genus Bacillus and having an ability to produce CB1, followed by collection of CB1 from the culture of cells. Further disclosed are a fungicide composition and an insecticide composition each containing CB1 as an active ingredient.
