A B S T R A C T The present invention relates to a poly-ion complex com- prising chitin or an N-acylchitosan derivative having carboxymethyl group(s) and a polyelectrolyte. The poly-ion complex of the present invention has excellent chemical and thermal resistance, and is compatible with non-toxic and stable within or without living bodies. The poly-ion complex of the present invention is utilizable as a material for microcapsules, membranes used in dialysis and ultrafilitration for artificial organs and surgical operations and in an accumulator and electro-conducting- or electro-charge-preventing coating as well as a plastic humidity regulator.
