0244H Abstract of the Disclosure A water soluble salt of chlorhexidine is mixed with a water soluble salt containing phosphanilate mono-anion when chlorhexidine diphosphanilate is desired, or with a water soluble salt containing phosphanilate di-anion when chlorhexidine monophosphanilate is desired. The desired mono- or di-phosphanilate salt of chlorhexidine precipitates and is selectively recovered. Chlorhexidine monophos- phanilate is a novel salt having antibacterial activity substantially comparable to that of chlorhexidine diphosphanilate.
