This invention relates to a process for the selective monochlorination or dichlorination of certain substituted alkenes using trichloroisocyanuric acid. The chlorinated alkenes can be easily hydrolyzed to provide .alpha.-monochloroketones or .alpha.,.alpha.-dichloroketones with a high degree of selectivity. The resulting.alpha.-monochloroketones or .alpha.,.alpha.-dichloroketones have utility as fungicides or function as useful intermediates for fungicides.

L'invention a trait à un processus de monochloration ou de dichloration sélective de certains alcènes substitués à l'aide d'acide trichloroisocyanurique. Les alcènes chlorés peuvent être facilement hydrolysés pour fournir des .alpha.-monochlorocétones ou des .alpha.,.alpha.-dichlorocétones avec un degré élevé de sélectivité. Les .alpha.-monochlorocétones ou les .alpha.,.alpha.-dichlorocétones résultantes sont utiles comme fongicides ou peuvent servir d'intermédiaires dans la préparation de fongicides.
