ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Nickel is leached from a particulate nickel sulphide material by forming a slurry of the material with a cuprous-ion bearing aqueous solution containing at least 10 grams per litre of copper, introducing chlorine into the slurry while monitoring the pH of the slurry, and discontinuing the chlorine introduction when the pH has decreased to a predetermined level.
