Disclosed herein are compositions for conferring oral tolerance in mammals to autoimmune disorders such as diabetes, as well as vectors and methods for plastid transformation of plants to produce a CTB-Pins protein for oral delivery. The invention also extends to the transformed plants, plant parts, and seeds and progeny thereof. The invention is applicable to plants edible without torrefying. Exemplified herein is the stable transformation of Lactuca sativa such that CTB-Pins is expressed.
L'invention concerne des compositions permettant de conférer, à des mammifères, une tolérance orale à des troubles auto-immuns tels que le diabète, ainsi que des vecteurs et des méthodes de transformation de plastes de plantes afin de produire une protéine CTB-Pins pour l'administration orale. L'invention concerne également les plantes transformées, des parties de plantes, ainsi que des graines et la descendance de ces dernières. L'invention est applicable à des plantes comestibles sans torréfaction. La transformation stable de Lactuca sativa de sorte que la protéine CTB-Pins soit exprimée est illustrée dans la description.
