A choke for controlling fluid flows in oil wells has a choke body with a cylindrical inner chamber and two discs in the chamber. One of the discs is stationary and has a fixed bore through it. The other disc rotates and has a series of bores of different sizes. The bores are all spaced the same radial distance from the axis of the chamber so that as the rotary disc is rotated, the various bores are brought into axial alignment with the bore in the fixed disc. This use of multiple bores and their alignment with the fixed bore reduces turbulence in the choke and consequently wear on the choke and the downstream piping.
