A latch assembly (16) adapted for use in a vehicle having a movable member, a fixed member, and a striker (18) fixed to one of the movable and fixed members. The latch assembly (16) is adapted to be connectable to the other of the movable and fixed members and to selectively couple the movable member to the striker. More particularly, the latch assembly of the present invention includes a housing (20), a latch (22) and a release cam (24) coupled to the housing (20), spring means (28), and a release mechanism (30). The housing (20) includes a striker opening (32) adapted to accommodate the striker (18). The latch (22) is operable in a latched position when the latch assembly is in a latched mode wherein the latch is adapted to couple the striker (18) to the housing (20) and in an unlatched position when the latch assembly is in an unlatched mode wherein the striker is freely movable relative to the housing. The release cam (24) is operable in an engaged position wherein the release cam urges the latch (22) toward its latched position and in a released position wherein the latch is operable in its unlatched position. The spring means (28) urges the release cam (24) toward its engaged position and the latch (22) toward its unlatched position. Finally, the release mechanism (30) is operable for selectively moving the release cam (24) from its engaged position to its released position.

Les ressorts (28) poussent la came de désaccouplement (24) en position engagée et le verrou (22) en position déverrouillée. Le mécanisme de dégagement (30), enfin, sert à déplacer, de manière sélective, la came (24) de la position engagée à la position dégagée.
