A press and mould for use in the manufacture of cigars. The mould comprises an upper cover and a lower cover formed of food-grade polypropylene and provided with substantially oblong cavities with one open and one substantially closed end for forming the cigars under pressure. The press comprises a resistance plate and a jack plate disposed within a brace, with space between the plates for placing one or more moulds. The resistance plate is mounted at one end of the brace by means of springs or another compression element. The jack plate is mounted on a hydraulic jack. Compression is applied to the moulds by activating the hydraulic jack in order to apply pressure to the moulds, until the desired amount of compression is achieved.
