A cigarette (10) comprises a tobacco rod (12) and a multi-component filter (14) comprising a bed of adsorbent (15) and a flavor-releasing filter segment (17) located downstream of the bed of adsorbent (15). In the preferred embodiment, the adsorbent is also flavor-bearing and comprises high surface area, activated carbon (20). As mainstream smoke is drawn through the upstream portion of the filter (14), gas phase smoke constituents are removed and flavor is released from the adsorbent bed (15). Thereafter additional flavor is released into the mainstream smoke as it passes through the flavor- releasing filter segment (17). Ventilation (24) is provided to limit the amount of tobacco being combusted during each puff and is arranged at a location spaced downstream from the adsorbent bed (15) to lower mainstream smoke velocity through the adsorbent bed (15).

L'invention concerne une cigarette (10) à tige de tabac (12) et filtre multicomposants (14) renfermant un lit adsorbant (15) et un segment de filtre libérateur de saveur (17) en aval du lit adsorbant (15). En mode de réalisation préféré, l'adsorbant est également chargé en saveur, avec une zone de carbone activé à surface importante (20). Lorsque le courant de fumée principal est aspiré à travers la partie amont du filtre (14), les constituants de fumée en phase gazeuse sont éliminés et la saveur est libérée depuis le lit adsorbant (15). Ensuite, une saveur additionnelle est libérée dans le courant principal, au moment de la traversée su segment de filtre libérateur de saveur (17). Une ventilation (24) est assurée pour limiter la quantité de tabac consumée à chaque bouffée. Cette ventilation est assurée au niveau d'un point situé en aval du lit adsorbant (15), à distance de celui-ci, permettant de ralentir l'écoulement de la fumée du courant principal à travers le lit adsorbant (15).
