ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Cigarette filter rods with improved efficiency and reduced resistance to gas flow consist of polypropylene multi-component fibres with micro-fissures on the surface and micropores in the mass, having from 5 to 7 crimps per 1 cm length and a fineness of from 5 to 7 dtex. The elemen- tary fibres in the bundle have different centres of gravity and the ratio of the component weight is 1:3 to 3:1. The process is based on separate melting and thermal treatment of each polypropylene melt flow with LVI of 100 to 200 ml.g-1 at the temperature of from 230 to 330°C so that a difference in the LVI value is 30 to 50 ml.g-1; at least one of the components contains from 5 to 20% by weight of a high molecular weight fraction with LVI of 400 to 450 ml.g-1. Each component is homogenized separately, the components are mixed to from a non-homogeneous flow of melts and extruded through 3 000 to 10 000 orifices of a spinneret into a bundle, treated with water and fixed at a temperature of from 70 to 140°C, wrapped and cut to rods.
