ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel smoking article comprises, in assembled form, a preformed paper tube, which usually has a tobacco smoke filter at one end, and a plain-ended tobacco rod which is inherently smokeable, usually a cigarette rod, which is inherently smokeable. The tobacco rod has external transverse dimensions and length correlated to the internal transverse dimensions and length of the preformed paper tube, so as to be received in substantially snug fit relation thereto. A kit for the assembly of smoking articles is provided, comprising preformed paper tubes and a plain-ended tobacco rod which is inherently smokeable and has external transverse dimensions correlated to the internal transverse dimensions of the preformed paper tube and which has a length which is a multiple of the internal length of the preformed tube.
