ABSTRACT A cigarette having a cigarette rod enwrapped in a cigarette wrapper and a filter tip attached at one end of the rod by a tipping wrapper. The filter tip has at its periphery one or more grooves extending to the mouth end of the tip. The cigarette wrapper at the region of the rod adjacent the tip is depressed inwardly to form a cavity communicating with the groove or grooves, and the portion of the tipping wrapper over- lying the cavity permits ingress of air into the cavity. This permits air to enter the smoker's mouth through the groove or grooves and reduces or avoids problems of the smoker obturating the air inlet when holding the cigarette at the tip end.
