Abstract of the Disclosure A cinch lock for safety belt retractors in which a manually operated plunger acts on the lock pawl to apply a spring bias to the pawl toward lock engagement with the re- tractor ratchets and in prevention of webbing withdrawal in- dependent of the automatic inertial locks and independent of associated comfort mechanisms. The plunger directly engages the pawl in only one direction of stroke and the manual lock is released and frustrated by a predetermined amount of webbing wound on the retractor spool. -23-
