46,601 CIRCUIT BREAKER WITH FAST TRIP MECHANISM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A circuit interrupter with a fast trip mechanism characterized by separable contacts, operating mechanism including tripping means normally releasably restraining the operating mechanism in the closed position, a spring operable when released to actuate the tripping means, magnetic means for releasably restraining the spring in an unreleased condition and comprising a magnet and an armature associated with the magnet providing a first mag- netic flux through the armature to prevent actuation of the tripping means which first magnetic flux force exceeds the force of the spring, and the magnetic means also comprising a trip coil operatively associated with the magnet to induce when energized a second magnetic flux in opposition to the first magnetic flux force, thereby reducing the holding force on the armature and enabling the spring to actuate the trip means.
