ABSTRACT A circuit system for improving the frequency characteristic of a color television signal having a variable delay for delaying a modulated chrominance signal within a predetermined time range by an applied control signal, control signal generator for producing a delay time control signal in response to a high frequency component of a luminance signal, and applying the delay time control signal to the variable delay to vary the delay time by the latter so as to sharpen the rise and fall portions of the modulated chrominance signal derived therefrom, the modulated chrominance signal thus obtained being demodulated to reproduce a color picture in cooperation with the luminance signal.
