A circuit for regulating the base current of a semi-conductor power device comprising a first amplifier driven by the base current producing an output current at a first amplifier output, a second amplifier driven by emitter current of the power device and producing an output current at a second amplifier output, and a sensing means connected to the first and second amplifier outputs and the current generator; the sensing means is sensitive to the difference between the output current of the first amplifier and the output current of the second amplifier, and controls the current generator so as to regulate the base current to maintain the output currents of the first and second amplifiers equal to one another, and thus maintain a constant ratio between the emitter current of the power device and the base current.
