CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A circuit interrupter comprises a pressure chamber within an arc extinguishing chamber containing an arc extinguish- ing fluid and a pair of separable contacts. The pressure chamber includes a separation chamber including a guide member or a check valve for supplying a high pressure fluid derived from an electric arc generated between the contacts to the pressure chamber. The high pressure fluid supplied from the high pressure chamber extinguishes the arc between the contacts. The guide member or the separation chambers alleviate mixing of the hot high pressure fluid with the cold high pressure fluid in the pressure chamber, providing the circuit interrupter with an improved arc extinguishing capability.
