The wood processing apparatus of the invention comprises a frame supporting a horizontal wood travelling bed on which timber is to be displaced to be cut into lumber. The apparatus comprises a first, a second and a third coplanar, thin kerf circular saw blades of substantially equal thickness and diameter, being rotatably supported on the frame by respective first, second and third shafts for rotation within a common plane. The first and second blades lie laterally adjacent to each other, while the third blade is positioned over and partly between the first and second blades, with its lower edge extending between the upper edge of the first and second blades. The first and second blades extend partly over the bed and rotate in opposite directions. A single cutting plane is achieved, generating commercially useful wood pieces from wood logs.
