Abstract A circulating fluidized bed reactor and a method of separating solid material from the flue gases A circulating fluidized bed reactor comprises a vortex chamber (4) for separating solid material from the discharge gases of the reactor. A channel (2), which guides the gases discharged from the reactor, is directed downwards. The main portion of the solid material is separated from the gases by a change of flow direction after which the solid material flows on to a return duct (8) in the lower part of the reactor (1). The main portion of the gases is directed after the change of direction to the vortex chamber (4, 104, 204, 304) where further separation of solid material is carried out.
