ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Platinum complexes are provided which can be linked to various molecules for targeting purposes. The compounds are of the general formula: Image wherein in the A ligands are the same or different and R1 and R2 represent a series of substituents that can be used as points of attachment to molecules of interest. While these platinum compounds can be linked to various agents, they also have excellent activity in the absence of conjugation. In addition they have good water solubility and excellent stability, particularly towards the reagents that are used in the linking reactions.
