2048691 9011420 PCTABS00002 A clamping device (60) for securing a pole (12) within a U-shaped yoke (68) includes a clamp member (80) pivotally supported on the yoke to open the latter so as to introduce therein an upright pole (12) or to close the yoke to clamp the pole therewithin. The clamp member is provided with a pivotable locking member (98) which has a hook (102) insertable into a slot (106) formed in a side wall of the yoke. A bolt (92) threadingly passes through a hole in the clamp member and is terminated with a bearing plate (96) which abuts the pole to clamp it within the yoke. The yoke is pivotally connected to an X-shaped brace (10) which is fastened to a support surface (14) to support the pole relative to this surface.
