CLAMPING INSERT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A clamping insert for gripping the sides of a plate member at a supporting edge and for inserting with the supporting edge into a groove of a grooved member wherein the insert is a stretchable elongated body of elastomeric material with a central portion, solid side portions and tilted ribs on the side portions for gripping engagement with the sides of the plate and locking flanges extending outwardly from the outer faces of the opposing inner faces of the side portions for engagement with the plate member. The thickness of the solid side portions and ribs is greater than the difference between the width of the groove and the thickness of the plate member to compress the ribs into gripping engagement with the plate member. The groove has slots for engagement with the locking flanges on the side portions.
