ABSTRACT The invention relates to a clamping ring used in apparatus for redrawing a cup-shaped work product to produce a one-piece can body. The clamping ring has a compound curvature transition zone between end and side walls of the ring, the zone having multiple curvilinear surfaces formed about multiple radii of curvature of different lengths. A projection of the transition zone onto a plane perpendicularly transverse to the centerline axis of the ring occupies a lesser radial dimension than the maximum radius of curvature utilized in forming the transition zone.
