ABSTRACT A method and composition for clarifying and reducing color contamination in water is disclosed. The method and composition comprises adding to the water a combination of a cationic poly electrolyte, a ferrous salt and hydrogen peroxide. The polymer may be chosen from: (a) epichlorohydrin-amine polymer, (b) polydiallyl- dimethyl ammonium chloride and (c) melamine-formaldehyde. Ferrous sulfate is the preferred ferrous salt.
