ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Clavulanic acid ethers of the formula (II) are disclosed: (II) Image wherein R is an inert organic group of up to 18 carbon atoms and A is a group such that CO2A represents a carboxylic acid group or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof. These compounds have anti-bacterial and .beta.-lactamase inhibitory activity. These compounds exhibit synergistic activity when used together with penicillins, cephalosporins or pro-drugs therefor. Methods of preparation of the compounds by etherification of esters of clavulanic acid.
