A B S T R A C T CLEANING A SULPHUR FILTER SCREEN Various processes exist in which molten sulphur is passed to a sulphur spray device, in order to spray the molten sulphur. Examples of such processes are a sulphur prilling process and a process for the manufacture of sulphuric acid. Before spraying molten sulphur, it is necessary to remove contaminants such as ash and carbon sulphur polymers from the molten sulphur by means of a filter screen, since said contaminants might disrupt the sulphur spray action. Contaminants collected on the filter screen have to be removed periodically. According to the in- vention the contaminants collected on the filter screen are removed by heating said contaminants so that they are ignited, whereafter the contaminants on the filter screen are allowed to combust. Finally remaining friable combustion products are removed from the filter screen.
