The invention relates to a cleaning appliance (110; 210; 310) for cleaning objects (112) to be cleaned. Said cleaning appliance (110; 210; 310) comprises a cleaning region (118, 134, 138; 212) for cleaning the object (112) to be cleaned using a cleaning liquid. The cleaning appliance (118, 134, 138; 212) also comprises a microwave disinfecting device (160) having a microwave source (164) for generating microwave radiation (172). The microwave disinfecting device (160) is used to sanitise objects (112) which are received in the cleaning appliance (110; 210; 310) in order to be cleaned.
