ABSTRACT A composition for removing encrusted residues from metallic surfaces contains from about 5% to about 80% by volume of a propylene glycol based solvent, the glycol based solvent being selected from the group consisting of the aliphatic ethers of a propylene glycol and esters of the aliphatic ethers of a propylene glycol; from about 5% to about 30% by volume of an alkyl pyrrolidone; from about 1% to about 10% by volume of an alkanolamine; and water. The compositions are useful for cleaning oil and grease from automotive parts.
