A cleaning tablet which comprises approximately by weight: (a) 25% to 50% of an alpha hydroxy aliphatic acid; (b) 10% to 45%of an alkali metal bicarbonate; (c) 0.5% to 15% of a clay; (d) 1% to 10% of at least one anionic surfactant; (e) 0.5% to 7% of an alkali metal salt of a polycraboxylic acid polymer; (f) 5% to 25%of an alkali metal carbonate; and (g) 1% to 20% of a bleach containing compound.
