The present invention is directed to using a non-uniform air cutoff in the cleaning fan assembly of an agricultural combine to better equalize air flow across the transverse width of the cleaning assembly. The cleaning fan housing is provided with a first outlet for directing a primary air blast through the chaff/grain mixture falling on the chaffer from a step pan, through the chaffer and through the sieve. A second outlet directs a secondary air blast through the chaff/grain mixture as it falls from a grain pan into the step pan. The second outlet is provided with an upstream edge and a downstream edge. In a first embodiment, an air cutoff having a convex leading edge is mounted to the downstream edge of the second outlet. In a second embodiment an air cutoff having a concave leading edge is mounted to the upstream edge of the second outlet.
