ABSTRACT A process and an apparatus for removing particulate and volatile components from a gas stream selected from gaseous process streams and feed gas streams for a gas-using apparatus, whereby the gas stream is contacted with a stream of solvent at a rate and spray pattern sufficient to remove particulate and volatile components present in the gas stream, characterized in that said solvent stream is at least one substantially flat wall of finely atomized solvent formed by at least one pair of diametrically opposing spray streams and extending across the direction of gas stream flow.
