ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a system for cleaning surfaces on carpets, furniture, drapery and the like by means of a cleaning fluid injected on the surface through a hand operated cleaning machine. The machine includes a shroud for preventing escape of the cleaning fluid other than at the surface to be cleaned. The shroud is secured in position by a flexible membrane to allow the shroud to float at the surface while the machine is in operation for maximizing concentration of the cleaning fluid.
