The invention is directed to a mechanism for adjusting the louvers in a cleaning shoe of an agricultural combine. The frame of the cleaning shoe carries adjustable louvers and an adjustment mechanism which includes a mounting bracket extending through an opening in one of the combine side sheets to mount an electric motor outside of the side sheets. The electric motor is directly mounted to the cleaning shoe frame structure and moves therewith. The electric motor is actuated manually by a control in the operator's cab or actuated by an automated controller that actuates the motor to adjust the louver position based on various inputs. A sensor is provided to determine the rotational position of the motor output shaft which corresponds to the louver opening.
