The invention concerns a method of separating optically active amides to form carboxylic acids and optically active amines such thatsthe centre of chirality is maintained. The method is characterized in that the amides are hydrolyzed in the presence of a polyol or an aminoalcohol and an alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide.
