The invention relates to a clock generator (11) for generating a clock signal for an image-setting device which transfers image-setting information to a rotatable printing plate (1). The clock generator (11) has an input (14) on which there is a current value signal which depends on the angular position of the printing plate (1), and an output (15) at which the clock signal is output. In addition, the clock generator (11) has a first comparator (19) with a first input, on which the current value signal is present as an analog signal, and a second input, on which there is an analog desired value signal which in each case represents a desired value for the angular position of the printing plate (1). At the output of the first comparator (19), the clock signal formed as a function of the result of a comparison between the analog current value signal and the analog desired value signal is output. In addition, the invention relates to a method for setting an image on a rotatable printing plate (1). The clock signal needed for the image-setting operation is determined from the analog current value signal and the analog desired value signal. -20-
