A method of recovery timing information and a clock recovery system for digital data signals are described, in which a digital data signal is assessed to determine the occurrence of a peak in part of the signal and the suitability of that peak for providing timing information. In the clock recovery systems described a peak evaluator has a maximum peak detector (11) for determining the maximum oversampled value in a symbol period and the sampling point at which that maximum occurred; and peak score calculator (t2) for establishing a measure of the suitability of the peak by assessing the gradients of parts of the peak. The peak score associated with a maximum in the signal is compared with a similarly established minimum peak score by a comparator (3) and the larger provided to a switch (4) which, if the selected score exceeds a threshold; updates a phase lock loop (5), with the sampling point at which that peak occurred.
L'invention décrit un procédé de récupération d'informations de synchronisation, ainsi qu'un système de récupération d'horloge pour des signaux de données numériques, dans lequel on évalue un signal de données numériques, afin de déterminer l'apparition d'une pointe dans une partie dudit signal, ainsi que la conformité de ladite pointe à produire une information de synchronisation. Dans le système de récupération d'horloge décrit par l'invention, un dispositif d'évaluation de pointe comporte un détecteur de pointe maximum (11) servant à déterminer la valeur de suréchantillonnage maximum dans une période symbolique et le point d'échantillonnage auquel ce maximum est apparu, ainsi qu'un calculateur de décompte de pointe (12) servant à établir une mesure de la conformité de la pointe, au moyen de l'évaluation des gradients de certaines parties de ladite pointe. On compare le décompte de pointe associé à un maximum dans le signal à un décompte de pointe minimum, établi de façon similaire, au moyen d'un comparateur (3) et le décompte supérieur est appliqué à un commutateur (4) qui procède à la mise à jour d'une boucle de synchronisation de phase (5) si le décompte sélectionné dépasse un seuil, avec le point d'échantillonnage auquel ladite pointe est apparue.
