According to a preferred embodiment of the invention in a newspaper vending machine, the proposed price changes in the coin-operated device are initiated by a real- time clock which changes the price(s) according to a program rate or schedule. The clock is preferably an electronic component of the automatic logic system which controls and operates the coin device. The clock is operably connected to the controller of the coin-operated device so that the price(s) of the goods and/or services may be changed according to the time-of day, day- of week, etc. In any event, the invention relates to the use of a clock to automatically change prices in electronic coin vending devices which are used to sell time and price sensitive products and/or services, with special reference to single-copy news rack sales.
