A closable compartment for a shopping cart is provided by a detachable top wall assembly which is securable between the backrest and rear gate of the baby seat compartment of a shopping cart. The compartment is defined between the rear gate of the shopping cart, the back rest of the baby seat compartment and the seat frame when the detachable top wall assembly is secured across the top end edges of the rear gate and the back rest.
