"A closed cycle apparatus comprises a combustion chamber to which inert carrier gas, combustion supporting gas and fuel are delivered, the fuel being burnt in the combustion chamber, the exhaust gas being exhausted from the combustion chamber and there being a circuit through which exhaust gas is ducted from the combustion chamber and returned to the combustion chamber to provide the carrier gas, a part only of the exhaust gas being treated in the circuit to remove carbon dioxide."
