A control system and method for an EGR valve (54), particularly in a diesel engine (30). A processor processes data in feedback control of the position of the valve element to develop from the data a position control signal for setting the extent to which the valve is open. The processing includes processing data (EGRP) corresponding to actual position of the valve and data (EGRP_DES) representing a desired position of the valve to develop a position error signal (EGRP_ERR), processing data (EGR_RATE_FDBK) that defines actual EGR rate and data (EGR_RATE_DES) representing a desired EGR rate to develop a rate error signal (EGR_RATE_ERR), and processing the position error signal (EGRP_ERR) and the rate error signal (EGR_RATE_ERR) to develop the position control signal (EGRP_DTY). Emission control system event monitors (200, 202) flag potential error sources in their incipiency to afford opportunity for correction before mandatory logging occurs.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de commande d'une soupape EGR (54), notamment dans un moteur diesel (30). Un processeur traite des données en asservissement des positions fonctionnelles afin de mettre au point, à partir desdites données, un signal d'asservissement de position destiné à régler l'ouverture de la soupape. Le traitement consiste à traiter des données (EGRP) correspondant à la position réelle de la soupape, et des données (EGRP DES) représentant une position désirée de la soupape, cela afin de mettre au point un signal d'erreur de position (EGRP ERR). Le traitement consiste ensuite à traiter des données (EGR RATE FDBK) établissant un taux RGE réel et des données (EGR RATE DES) représentant un taux RGE désiré afin de mettre au point un signal d'erreur de taux (EGR RATE ERR). Le traitement consiste enfin à traiter le signal d'erreur de position (EGRP ERR) et le signal d'erreur de taux (EGR RATE ERR) pour mettre au point le signal d'asservissement de position (EGRP DTY). Des moniteurs d'événements du système de commande des émissions (200, 202) signalent dès le départ les éventuelles sources d'erreur, ce qui permet d'y apporter des corrections avant l'ouverture impérative de session.
