CLOSED LOOP FUEL CONTROL USING AIR INJECTION IN OPEN LOOP MODES Abstract of the Disclosure A fuel control for an engine is normally operated closed loop with a feedback signal from an air-fuel ratio sensor in the engine exhaust. However, during idle, wide open throttle and engine warm up operating modes, the closed loop control is cut out and the engine is run rich with air injected into the exhaust system to reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions.
