ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A closed press section of a paper machine comprising a compact construction of at least four press rolls which are in mutual nip defining relationship forming at least three press nips between themselves and wherein a web runs in a closed draw between the nips supported by a fabric, fabrics or a press roll face. The press rolls include a suction roll and a smooth-faced press roll which together form a press nip provided with a single felt. At least two additional press nips are formed in connection with the suction roll through which the web passes between two fabrics. One of the fabrics in each of the first and second nips constitute a single upper fabric which also functions as a pick-up fabric by means of which the web is detached from the forming wire and passed through the first three of the press nips. The press section may also in- clude a fourth press nip formed between a press roll and the smooth- faced press roll and through which a press felt also passes.
