ABSTRACT The invention relates to a closure for a bottle or the like, with a cap-like retaining part having an inwardly directed projection or collar engaging under an external bead on the neck of a bottle, and with a sealing part, separate from the said retaining part, and connected thereto, having an annular sealing surface bearing upon the end-surface of the neck of the bottle. The sealing part is connected to the retaining part by a resilient element or is itself resilient, in such a manner as to form a relief-valve. If the closure is used for the neck of a bottle, the retaining part bears upon the upper edge of the neck of the bottle under the tension of the resilient element. It opens at a pressure predetermined by spring tension, so that an inadmissibly high pressure cannot arise. This means that a bottle can never burst, which is dangerous and may lead to an accident.
