A closure mechanism for a reclosable pouch includes a female profile having first and second legs extending from a first base of a first closure element and a sealing flange attached to each of the first and second legs. A slit is disposed through the sealing flange to define a first sealing flap that depends from the first leg and a second sealing flap that depends from the second leg. A male profile extends from a second base of a second closure element. The male profile is adapted to engage a portion of at least one of the first and second sealing flaps to form a seal therebetween when the male and the female profiles are occluded. Further, a surface of the second base is configured to engage at least one of the first and second sealing flaps to form a seal therebetween when the male and the female profiles are occluded.
