A tamper-evident dispensing closure (30) comprises a base (40) having a deck (60) defining a dispensing orifice (62) and an anchor-receiving opening (64) with an adjacent anchor-retention structure (66). A lid (70) is provided to close the orifice (62) and defines an aperture (82) spaced from the dispensing orifice (62) when the lid (70) is seated on the base (40). A tamper-indicating element (90) is provided with an anchor (96) retained in the opening (64) below the deck (60) in the base. The element (90) has a first segment (101) extending from the anchor (96) through the base opening (64), between the base (40) and lid (70), and through the lid aperture (82). A second segment (102) extends from the first segment (101) and is disposed adjacent a portion of the lid (70) to inhibit movement of the lid (70) from the closed position. A first frangible connection (122) joins the first and second segments at the lid aperture (121). A second frangible connection (121) joins the first segment (101) to the anchor (96) at the anchor-receiving opening (64) in the base (40).
