The present separator comprises an elongated body having opposed open upper and lower channels connected by a vertical web. A roller is rotatably mounted within the upper channel. The lower channel acts as a hook. Typically, the separator is adapted to be mounted to a clothes line and, more particularly, to the upper and lower runs thereof such as to prevent sagging of the lower run when clothes hang therefrom. When installed, the roller rests atop the upper run, whereas the lower run lies at the bottom of the lower channel. The weight of the clothes increases the pressure of the roller on the upper run and of the lower run on the bottom of the lower channel, whereby when the lower run is displaced, the separator will roll along the upper run in view of its roller with the separator following the displacement of the lower run in view of the frictional engagement of the lower run with the lower channel of the separator. If the distance between the roller and the bottom of the lower channel is reduced enough, the separator S will follow the lower run even when no clothes hang from the lower run.
