ABSTRACT A pneumatic clutch comprising an input shaft and a clutch de- fining a pair of pistons having opposed faces which make a driving connection with the input shaft. The pistons move axially along the input shaft. An output shaft is carried by and is rotatable on the input shaft. The pistons operate to make a driving connection with the output shaft. A conduit directs air under pressure to the opposed faces of the pistons to move the pistons axially to seize the output shaft to thereby effect the driving connection. A method of clutching a power or input shaft to an output shaft includes mounting a pair of opposed pistons on the input shaft so that the pistons are rotated by the input shaft and are axially movable thereon. An output shaft is supported upon the input shaft so that the output shaft restricts or limits the axial motion of the pistons. The method finally compri- ses moving the pistons axially by means of air under pressure while applying power to the input shaft to rotate the pistons until the pistons seize the output to thereby transmit power from the input shaft to the output shaft. -1-
