A clutch detent mechanism for an outboard motor includes a ball (54) movable with a clutch dog member (22), a ball retainer member (43) provided in a propeller shaft (21) for retaining the ball in a predetermined position, and a compression coil spring (52) acting on the ball (54) to resiliently force the ball against the ball retainer member (43). The ball retainer member (43) has a recessed portion (43a) for receiving therein the ball (54) to thereby retain the clutch dog member in a neutral position, a front tapered portion (43b) provided on one side of the recessed portion for retaining the ball in a position to keep the clutch dog member in a forward shift position, and a rear tapered portion (43c) provided on the other side of the recessed portion for retaining the ball in a position to keep the clutch dog member in a reverse shift position.

Mécanisme de détente pour moteur hors-bord comprenant une bille (54) déplacée par un crabot d'embrayage (22), un élément de retenue de bille (43) équipant un arbre d'hélice (21) pour retenir ladite bille à une position prédéterminée, ainsi qu'un ressort hélicoïdal de compression agissant sur la bille (54) afin de forcer de manière élastique la bille contre l'élément de retenue de la bille (43). Ce dernier comporte une partie encastrée (43a) pour y recevoir la bille (54) afin de retenir ainsi le crabot d'embrayage à une position de point mort, une partie avant conique (43b) étant prévue sur un côté de la partie encastrée pour retenir la bille à une position permettant de garder le crabot d'embrayage à une position de prise en marche avant, et une partie arrière conique (43c) étant prévue de l'autre côté de la partie encastrée pour retenir la bille à une position permettant de garder le crabot d'embrayage à une position de prise en marche arrière.
