ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Adsorptive, protein-binding aluminum oxyhydroxides are prepared by mixing carbonate-free, highly hydrated, aluminum oxyhydroxides containing aqueous suspensions with water soluble additives that furnish coordinating moieties with the aluminum compound and drying the resultant mixture. The protein- binding aluminum oxyhydroxides can be made resuspendable by acidifying to a pH valve of between about 4 and about 6.5. Such acidification can occur either before or after drying. The novel adsorptive protein-binding agents have particular utility in the manufacture of topical skin compositions.
